What is up next for both Alabama quarterbacks?

If you were too tired to stay up and watch the National Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia, you missed one of the best championship games in the history of college football.

True freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa took over for struggling Jalen Hurts after halftime. Hurts, who recorded only 21 yards passing throughout the entirety of the first half, put his coaching hat on and watched Tagovailoa bring Alabama back.

With Tagovailoa taking over for Hurts and winning the game with some one-of-a-kind plays, it brings up the question: What is up next for both of these young quarterbacks?

Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts is just a sophomore, but may have played his last game ever with the Crimson Tide. Given what transpired with his teammate Tagovailoa, Jalen Hurts is now that ex-girlfriend who you thought was a ‘10’ until you met another girl (Tagovailoa) and realize your ex is really a ‘six’ at best. This is not the end of Jalen Hurts; lucky for him I know just what he needs to do to become that vibrant ‘10’ again.

Give Chip Kelly a call at UCLA

Listen Jalen, you need to face the facts, Alabama has moved on and you need to leave there if you want to ever play college football again. What if there was a new head coach who loves running quarterbacks that may even need you more than you need him? That man is real, maybe a little overweight, and goes by the name of Chip Kelly.

This move makes even more sense because Josh Rosen is leaving UCLA for the draft, leaving a big hole at the quarterback position. Even though Chip Kelly struggled in the NFL with a career record of 28-36, he had tremendous success in the NCAA with a 46-7 record. Just imagine how “Hollywood” it would be if Hurts and Kelly squared off against Tagovailoa and Saban in the next National Championship. That is some must-watch television.

Change your number

Wearing the number two did not work out. Hurts’ freshman season ended with the Clemson Tigers beating Alabama in the title game making Hurts finish second. Now this year, Hurts watched Tagovailoa win the championship, making Hurts the backup, or number two on the depth chart.

It is time to throw out that old troublesome number two and become number one. Some of sports’ best players of all time were even number one: Oscar Robertson, Bernie Parent, Warren Moon. This is a very subtle move that just could give you the popularity you desire once again.

DVR that 2nd half

Hurts cannot just sit around and let his legacy be set by being the kid who was benched for a freshman. Watching this half over and over throughout the offseason will make Hurts much stronger and will let him get back that winning mentality that was damaged in the championship. Even though Hurts looked very calm in the interview after the game, he really wanted to tell Tom Rinaldi that he is going to use this as motivation to get better.

Tua Tagovailoa

Tagovailoa handled the pressure like a 10-year NFL veteran as he came in and calmly brought his team back with three very crucial touchdowns. The offensive MVP of the championship is just getting started as the quarterback of the Alabama Crimson Tide and has a bright future ahead of him. He may even go down as the best quarterback that Saban has had in his coaching career at Alabama.

P-A-R-T-Y Party

Tagovailoa is a true freshman who is now the big man on campus after the win. All the stress from the championship game is now out of the way and Tagovailoa can  now sit back, relax, and let the good times roll.

Tagovailoa should make it a top priority to enjoy college because the NFL is not so good to Alabama quarterbacks or even lefty quarterbacks to begin with. Only two lefty quarterbacks have ever won a Super Bowl where they were the starting quarterback: Steve Young and Ken Stabler.

Create a trophy case for your Heisman

ESPN absolutely loves to take stories like these and keep repeating them until they drive a person insane. When anybody thinks of college football over the summer, they will think of how amazing this freshman phenom is going to be in his sophomore season of being the starter. This makes Tagovailoa the early favorite to win the award the next season.

With one of the best recruiting classes in America, the best college coach in America, and the best team in America, it will be very difficult for Tagovailoa to not live up to these high expectations. If Johnny Manziel was able to party all the time and win a Heisman, then so should Tua Tagovailoa.
