The song that describes every NHL teams season so far

Songs that describe every NHL team's season so far, from the good to the bad to the ugly.

It’s a little over a month into the NHL season. Some teams have been surprisingly good and others surprisingly bad. The New Jersey Devils are the 1st in the Metro, and the Golden Knights are having a historic season so far. We have created a playlist to document each team’s season so far, from the good to the bad and every team in between. The playlist is at the bottom so give it a listen as you read the article.

Anaheim Ducks: Keep Ya Head Up – Tupac

The Ducks have played well at times but currently sit among a crowd competing in the West. There season can go two ways from this point: They can end up being mediocre, or keep their heads up and play more consistent hockey.

Arizona Coyotes: Lonesome Loser – Little River Band

The Coyotes have the worst record in the league. They have won only one game and have just three points. They have been bad for a while and it doesn’t look like they will be better anytime soon.

Boston Bruins: Everybody Hurts – REM

The Bruins are really banged up. They have 7 guys listed on the injury report with important players like Brad Marchand, David Backes, Adam McQuaid, and David Krejci all banged up.

Buffalo Sabres: Bad Day – Daniel Powter

For the most part this season, the Sabres have had nothing but bad days. They are the third worst team in the Eastern Conference and have given up 14 more goals than they have scored.

Calgary Flames: We Didn’t Start the Fire – Billy Joel

The Flames have failed to start the fire this season. They haven’t had an awful season but were supposed to be better. The good news for them is they are right in the thick of the hunt for the Wild Card.

Carolina Hurricanes: Patience – Guns N Roses

The Hurricanes have the fourth youngest team with an average age of 25.76 and despite only having 10 points right now, Carolina has a good young squad. They just need to be patient as the wins will come.

Chicago Blackhawks: Good Times Bad Times – Led Zeppelin

The Blackhawks have played really well at times like beating the Penguins 10-1 but losing to Colorado 6-3. With 14 points they too are right in the thick of things in the West.

Colorado Avalanche: Dark Horse – Katy Perry

The Avs weren’t supposed to be this good. In all likelihood as things even out, they will probably digress. But a little over a month into the season, Colorado has been a dark horse. They have played well and are currently sitting in a playoff spot.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Ride – Twenty One Pilots

The last few seasons the Blue Jackets have been playing well and nothing has changed so far this year. They are riding high, sitting in second place in the Metro.

Dallas Stars: Bounce Back – Big Sean

Two seasons ago, Dallas was one of the best teams in the Western Conference, putting up 109 points. Last year they didn’t qualify for the playoffs. This year they have bounced back so far.

Detroit Red Wings: Broken Wings – Mr. Mister

What more needs to be said? The Red Wings are such a historic team, but have struggled this year.

Edmonton Oilers: Sorry – Justin Bieber

What happened to the Edmonton Oilers? Sorry (or soorey) is what the Oilers are telling their fans. Last season, they were the surprise team led by a good young core of players that carried them to the second round of the playoffs. That same group of guys has produced a dreadful start to this season.

Florida Panthers: In Too Deep – George Strait

Florida lost four of their top scorers from last season. That’s part of the reason why they only have 9 points this season. There is still time to right the ship, but it looks like they may be In ‘Too Deep’ this season.

Los Angeles Kings: Back in Black – AC/DC

The Kings are back. L.A. won the Stanley Cup in 2013, but have missed the playoffs in two of the last three seasons. This season they already have 10 wins and 21 points, and are one of the hottest teams in the league. They may have been disappointing the last few seasons, but the Kings are Back in Black.

Minnesota Wild: I Fall Apart – Post Malone

They have made the playoffs in each of the last five seasons, but are falling apart now. They are the third worst team in the West and it doesn’t help that Zach Parise is on the shelf until January with a back injury.

Montreal Canadiens: We Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus

Montreal has been a flaming pile of garbage this year. They can’t stop a shot from going in. In 11 starts this year, Carey Price has given up 3.77 goals a game, (4th worst among players with 5+ starts) and has the second worst save percentage among players with at least five starts (.877). Price has been an elite goalie for a while, but not this season. The Canadiens are just bad this year.

Nashville Predators: Something Bad – Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert

Country singer Carrie Underwood is married to recently-retired Mike Fisher, who helped the Predators reach the Stanley Cup. This Underwood song perfectly describes the Predators season so far as they have a -5 goal differential and only have 14 points.

New Jersey Devils: Started from the Bottom – Drake

Unlike Drake, the Devils actually did start from the bottom. They finished dead last in the Metropolitan Divisions last year. I will be the first to admit I was wrong thus far about these Devils. I thought their inexperience and injury questions would hamper their season, but the young guys are playing well and the Devils are currently sitting atop the Metro.

New York Islanders: No Sleep Till Brooklyn – the Beastie Boys

The Islanders have had an interesting season, playing good hockey and giving people in Brooklyn something to cheer about, but Jonathan Tavares contract is looming large over the team. Not to mention that they are trying so hard to leave the Barclays Center. But maybe most importantly, they have given up the most shorthanded goals this season, which is not a stat any NHL team wants to lead in, but they are still playing good hockey.

New York Rangers: Everyday Struggle – Notorious BIG

The Rangers season has been an Everyday Struggle. They only have five wins in 14 games and have given up six more goals than they have scored. For a team that was supposed to be one of the best in the conference after adding Kevin Shattenkirk to sure up the blue line, they have certainly struggled.

Ottawa Senators: Remember the Name – Fort Minor

The Senators are coming off a season where they almost knocked off the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Penguins in the first round of the playoffs. Despite making it to the postseason last year, the Senators were kind of lost in the shuffle of a new season But the Senators have a good squad led by Erik Karlsson and they want you to remember them.

Philadelphia Flyers: Fly Like an Eagle – Steve Miller Band

It must be exciting to be a Philadelphia fan right now with the Eagles and Flyers both playing really well. The Flyers listened to Steve Miller and are flying like an Eagle (pun definitely intended). But for real, the Flyers are looking to make it back to the postseason  and so far they have played like a playoff team.

Pittsburgh Penguins: Mind Playing Tricks on Me – Geto Boys

The Penguins are winning games. With that being said, their goalie situation is atrocious. Their goal differential is tied for third worst in the league. They have given up 54 goals, second worst in the league. Their goalies mind’s are playing tricks on them.

San Jose Sharks: Mr. Jones – Counting Crows

Martin Jones is the goalie for the Sharks. When he plays well they win, but when he struggles they lose. In games he has lost this season, Jones’ save percentage is 0.889. In games that he has won, his save percentage is 0.945. Mr. Jones has been one of the main keys to their success.

St. Louis Blues: Hot in Herre – Nelly

There may be no hotter team in the NHL right now then the St. Louis Blues. They are the best team in the West, and their goalie, Jake Allen, is having a really good year and they are scoring a lot.

Tampa Bay Lightning: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

Tampa Bay is the best team in the league. They have scored the most points so far with 22. The top two scorers in the league are Lightning players (Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov). The Lightning are in good shape a month into the season.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Auston Matthews – SVDVM

This song is not good, but it does speak to how big a hero the 20-year-old has been to his team and Toronto. Matthews just became the fastest player to reach 50 goals since Alex Ovechkin. That’s not all. Matthews is currently fourth in the league in goals. He is the driving force behind the Maple Leafs.

Vancouver Canucks: Come Back Song – Darius Rucker

The Canucks are coming off two disappointing years where they finished near the bottom in the Pacific. But they are having a nice little comeback. So far this season, the Canucks have put up 14 points and currently hold a wild card spot.

Vegas Golden Knights: Luck Be a Lady – Frank Sinatra

It had to be a Frank Sinatra song. Las Vegas is Sinatra. The Golden Knights are having the best start of a franchise in the history of expansion teams. While the front office built a good team, they weren’t supposed to be this good. Luck has certainly played at least a small role in their fortunes this season.

Washington Capitals: Baby Come Back – Player

The Caps went for it all last season when they traded for rental Kevin Shattenkirk. It didn’t quite pan out and they went through a player change in the offseason when they lost several players to free agency and trades in order to get under the salary cap. They are certainly missing those players this year, especially defensmen Karl Alzner and Shattenkirk. With Matt Niskanen injured, the young inexperienced defenders the Caps are playing are facing a steep learning curve.

Winnipeg Jets: Takin’ Care of Business – Bachman Turner Overdrive

Bachman Turner Overdrive is from Winnipeg and Takin’ Care of Business is just what the Jets are doing. The have won 7 of their 12 games and are second in the Central.

Bachman Turner Overdrive is from Winnipeg and Takin’ Care of Business is just what the Jets are doing. The have won 7 of their 12 games and are second in the Central.

Want to listen to all these songs to see how every team feels? I got you!
