This week marked the initial rankings made by the college football playoff committee. Although the initial rankings typically don’t wind up looking anything like the final rankings (Remember when Mississippi State was No. 1 in the country???) it is still always fun to speculate how the playoffs may look come the end of the season.
The Bulldogs have cruised through their first 8 games, and are loving life at the top of the college football world.
Nick Saban may not show it, but he can’t help but laugh at anyone other than his Crimson Tide being number one.
3. Notre Dame
The Irish can’t be anything but thrilled to be in the top four right now.
Despite their slip up against Syracuse, the reigning champs still find themselves in the top four.
Despite being No. 8 in the AP poll, the Sooners find themselves at No. 5 in the playoff polls.
6. Ohio State
The Buckeye fanbase might feel a little salty about being No. 6 in the initial polls.
7. Penn State
Ohio State might have “intercepted” Penn State’s playoff hopes following their showdown this past weekend.
The Horned Frogs might be sweating a little following their loss to Iowa State.
Despite being unbeaten, the Badgers find themselves at No. 9, in large part due to their strength of schedule.
Similar to Wisconsin, unbeaten Miami finds themselves low in the poll due to their strength of schedule.
11. Oklahoma State
The Pokes probably don’t care about their ranking too much, as they’re focused on their upcoming matchup with bitter rivals Oklahoma.
The Huskies aren’t too thrilled about being No. 12 right now.
13. Virginia Tech
Despite only being No. 13, the Hokies are probably feeling pretty good about their season so far.
At this point, even Auburn fans don’t know if they are good or not.
15. Iowa State
The Cyclones are a top 15 team, and they have to be loving all of it.
16. Mississippi State
The Bulldogs are enjoying life right now sitting at No. 16.
USC started off as a top five team, but they’ve stumbled a lot this season.
The Knights have cruised through their schedule and sit undefeated, but the committee doesn’t seem to care.
After losing to Troy earlier this year, it’s all celebrations in Baton Rouge after LSU somehow saved their season.
20. NC State
The Wolfpack have to be thrilled with the season they’ve had so far.
At this point, Cardinal fans probably care more about Bryce Love’s Heisman hype than their rankings.
It’s all dancing in Tucson for the Wildcats and their new savior Khalil Tate.
The Tigers have put together a solid season, and are thrilled to find themselves ranked.
24. Michigan State
The Spartans had looked to put things together this year, until they lost on the road to Northwestern.
25. Washington State
A few weeks ago, Washington State was a serious playoff contender. Then they slipped up and lost to Cal and Arizona
