The Ramsey Curse: Is It Real?

January 9th, 2016: Aaron Ramsey scored in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Sunderland

January 10th, 2016: Legendary singer-songwriter David Bowie passes away at the age of 69.

And this is not the first time something like this has happened.

Coincidence? Well, maybe. Let me explain.

What has become known as “The Ramsey Curse,” is a phenomenon formed in 2011 after he scored in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Manchester United on May 1st. On May 2nd, Osama bin Laden, the infamous leader of the al-Qaeda terrorist organization who organized the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks on the US, was killed by Seal Team 6 in Pakistan.

Basically, when Aaron Ramsey scores, someone famous dies. It sounds stupid, but Ramsey has claimed several “victims” in the years following the bin Laden coincidence.

Among these victims are: Steve Jobs, Muammar Gaddafi, Whitney Houston, Paul Walker, Robin Williams, David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Nancy Reagan, and most recently Yisrael Kristal, the world’s oldest man, who died after Ramsey scored in Arsenal’s 4-3 win over Leicester City last Friday.

To make matters worse, WWE legend Ric Flair was hospitalized and put into ICU over the weekend, so if he passes, he will become Ramsey’s next “victim.”

Now, no one wants “Nature Boy” to take his “WOOs” to the heavens, and this isn’t something that people are rooting for. Rather, this is a serious problem that needs to be stopped, but how do you stop a stop a problem like this?

The consensus answer for this is probably to stop Ramsey from ever scoring again, but that would require one of three possible ways to make that happen: he suffers career-ending injury, never scores again, or dies himself.

If anyone roots for any of those three options to happen, especially 1 and 3, they are terrible people and really shouldn’t be allowed in public places, but that’s another story for another day.

In all reality, there truly is no way to stop “The Ramsey Curse,” unless Ramsey doesn’t get any further chances to score during his playing career.

It’s an unfortunate circumstance, but weirder things have happened in sports, like how Globo Gym lost after having a three man advantage in the ADAA Dodgeball Invitational Championship.
